Common damage and treatment methods
1. Broken stock
Cause: friction; sharp edges or surfaces.
Treatment: You can remove the damaged part, re-snap (standard end-for-end splice) or replace the cable.
2. Squeeze
Reason: The fiber piles up on the contact surface during radial load.
Treatment: relax the cable and remove the squeeze.
3. Pick stocks
Reason: Hooked or scratched by the contact surface or equipment.
Treatment: plug it back into the cable.
4. Melt
Reasons: ambient temperature is too high; instantaneous load; continuous high-load work.
Treatment: The damaged part can be removed, buckle again or the cable can be replaced.
5. Discoloration
Reason: chemical pollution.
Treatment: The damaged part can be removed, buckle again or the cable can be replaced.
6. Different thickness
Reason: inner strand breakage, impact load.
Treatment: The damaged part can be removed, buckle again or the cable can be replaced.
7. Wear
Reasons: friction, sharp surface, damaged inner strands.
Treatment: Check the wear of the entire rope (internal and external), and decide whether to replace it after evaluation.
