Check the climbing rope after each use. The best inspection tool is your hand. They can sensitively detect abnormalities on the climbing rope, such as a sudden flattening of a place, a feeling different in thickness from other places, or a particularly loose section. The rope must not pass directly through bolts, fixing points, umbrella straps, and slings. Rubbing with these things hurts the rope.Shackles, figure-of-eight loops, ATC, jumar and other equipment that will directly contact the climbing rope should also be checked. If there are frayed or abnormal protrusions on their surface, the climbing rope will be damaged.
The climbing rope should be cleaned regularly, especially when it is used for river upstream or ice and snow climbing, which often dirty the climbing rope. Put the climbing rope in the bathtub, soak it in cold water and a neutral detergent (such as ivory soap), then stir constantly to wash all parts of the climbing rope. Particularly dirty areas, gently scrub with a soft brush. Change the water several times to make sure that all the detergent has been washed away, then spread it out on the ground or hang it up and place it in a cool, ventilated place to dry naturally. Do not bask in the sun, or use a dryer, hair dryer, etc. will cause great damage to the inside of the climbing rope.
