When you start learning to knit, you will definitely be dizzy with various threads. Let’s take a look at the types of threads used for knitting.
First classify them from different perspectives:
Weaving process: strand and braid
Strand: A thread formed by twisting two or more single yarns together.
Braided thread: multiple single yarns or even strands formed by weaving process.
Braided rope and strand rope
Material used: cotton, polyester, nylon, leather rope, hemp rope and mixed materials
Cotton thread: cotton fiber twisted.
Polyester: polymer synthetic fiber, anti-wrinkle and non-ironing, non-sticky hair, good air permeability and moisture removal, strong resistance to acid and alkali, and anti-ultraviolet.
Nylon: also called polymer synthetic fiber, with high strength, high abrasion resistance, high chemical resistance and good resistance to deformation, aging resistance, softer than polyester.
Leather rope: made of rubber or animal leather, more elastic.
Hemp rope: made of hemp plant fibers.
Mixed material: cotton thread, nylon, polyester and other materials mixed together to make a thread.
Basically, different materials can be distinguished by fire. Cotton thread will be carbonized and turned into powder after burning. Polyester will become a lump, but it is easy to crush, and nylon will condense into one piece, just like plastic.
